Through this weekly Music Monday post, I am sharing my passion for music and helping you determine ways to leverage different songs or messages to be at your best. The goal is to inspire and motivate you through all the different seasons of the work year and to help you discover new music that can drive you.
We are having so much fun creating these Music Monday newsletters and giving tips to match your soundtrack to the moment you are in and help you discover new things. We love hearing what resonates with you and what you like, so please keep the feedback coming!
Now read on to fuel your week!
:: Intro ::
I’m going to let you in on a little something—I’ve been holding out on sharing anything from this crew- aka Vulfpeck or Vulf or the million other side projects within the Vulf universe, but whatever combination of artists I see, I tend to love, so it’s time. Vulpeck has a Madison Square Garden show in September, and considering we play some variation of these guys (and also them + Evangeline) so frequently in our house, I can’t gatekeep any longer. Shows are happening across the US this year, and if you can’t see them live, try to catch a YouTube performance. We love the joy and energy they bring to every live experience, like this one in Paris from 8 months ago, so wherever you are in the world, it’s only a matter of time before they bring more joy your way. Vulfmon (aka Jack Stratton project) is one of my family’s go-to artists.
:: Song of The Week | Disco Snails by Vulfmon & Zachary Barker ::
This week’s song, Disco Snails, featuring Zachary Barker, is delightfully absurd yet catchy, fun, and full of momentum. It reminds you not to take yourself too seriously—because, yes, the song is about actual disco snails. If you don’t know what a disco snail is, don’t worry—the lyrics have you covered, with lines like:
“They’re on the roof, they found the groof.”
“Disco? Why?”
“The simple answer is: they’re dancers.”AND
“He’s got a house on his back and a boombox too.”
“They move real slow, but the rhythm’s tight.”
“Glide so smooth on a mirrored tile—disco trails for miles and miles.”
:: Motivation ::
The lyrics lean fully into absurdity in the best way—I’m smiling just summarizing it. When I asked ChatGPT about this song’s components, it said it’s “like someone mashed up a kids' picture book with a 1970s dance floor,” and after hearing this song’s style described this way, I could not NOT share it. If you're in the right mood (or want to get in the right mood to be joyful and ready for the day), it’s precisely the kind of track that gets the endorphins flowing.
If you listen to it and think it sounds strange at first, please give it two more listens, and I’ll bet you will be hooked. There’s something magnetic about artists who are both genuinely talented and completely unafraid to be joyful and ridiculous—that’s the magic of Vulf-world.
I won’t pretend to have a full map of the Vulf side project universe (a quick Google will give you the sprawl), but I can tell you this: if you hang out at my house, there’s an 85% chance that a Vulf-something tune will be playing, especially since the boys find the band to be hilarious. Three of their songs made it into my 2024 personal playlist of favorite songs from the year, and we are known to pull up their song “How Much Do You Love Me” (the Ellis Remix) on YouTube and have our own little family dance party.
So I hope this track—or at least the dancing pic below of my kiddos jamming out—puts a smile on your face this post–Spring Break Monday. Find the groof, enjoy the process, and don’t take yourself too seriously this week. There’s a disco snail on the roof. Go dance with it.
**Disclaimer: this newsletter is not intended to share the exact intention of the artist but rather is showing our interpretation of elements we think you’ll enjoy or suggested utility for leveraging it in your own life.**
